Need a Building Permit?
Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by code, shall first make application for a building permit.
Single Family, two-family, accessory buildings
Single family, two-family and accessory buildings applications shall provide the following information.

Site/plot plan:
- Provide lot dimensions and legal description.
- Provide dimensions from the proposed structure to the property lines, centerline of the right of way when applicable and other structures on the property.
- Indicate all easements, alleys and streets on or abutting the property.
- Indicate where sewer, water, gas and electric utility lines service the property.
- Indicate location of proposed and/or existing driveways to the property.

The building plans shall provide the following information:
- Floor plans showing the size and use of each room on every level of the proposed structure.
- Provide a cross section of the proposed footing design.
- Indicate all internal load bearing footings.
- Indicate the roof system whether it is a truss design or dimensional lumber.
- Any unconventional construction methods may require an architect or engineer seal of approval.
1-2 Family Dwelling Residential Permit Application
EROSION CONTROL SYSTEMS SHALL BE INSTALLED AND INSPECTED FOR APPROVAL WHEN APPLICABLE PRIOR TO BUILDING PERMITS BEING ISSUED
Multiple Family Units (three or more)
Multiple Family Units (three or more) and all commercial applications shall provide the following information.

Site/plot plan:
- Provide the dimensions and the legal description.
- Provide dimensions from the proposed structure to the property lines, centerline of the right of way when applicable, and other structures on the property.
- Indicate all easements, alleys and streets on or abutting the property.
- Indicate where sewer, water, gas and electric utility lines service the property.
- Indicate closest fire hydrant location from the property.
- Indicate the location and width of existing and/or proposed driveways.
- Provide parking design including number of spaces including handicap spaces, length and width of the spaces, isle widths, and directional flow when applicable.
- Indicate trash receptacle location.
- Indicate location and method of solid screening when applicable.
- Provide landscape plan (may be submitted on a separate sheet).
- Provide sign location with dimensions from property lines. All signs shall conform to the provisions in the sign regulations.

Building plans shall provide the following information:
- A storm water study and design shall be designed by a Kansas licensed Engineer.
- The plans including the floor plan, structural, plumbing, mechanical and electrical design shall be sealed by a Kansas Architect and Engineer.
- Sign detail shall be required showing type of sign, size, footing detail designed to a 90mph wind zone, indicate if it is illuminated and the message of what the sign will display.
Permit applications may be obtained at the Public Works Office located at 609 High St. or City Hall located at 803 8th Street. Return the completed application to the Public Works Office. Allow three (3) days for residential permits to process.
Commercial plans will process through the Planning Commission for initial approval and then be forwarded to the Building Department for final code review.
