Police protection is a basic function of government. It is the only occupation whose employees may be authorized to use deadly force in certain situations. Lives depend upon having well trained police officers that are emotionally and physically fit. Citizens want and expect a police force that is professional in every way. Having a good working relationship between police officers and citizens is of vital importance.
Baldwin City has a professional police force that is comprised of 10 employees.
On December 16th, 2002, Michael E. "Mike" McKenna was appointed Chief of Police for Baldwin City. Chief McKenna's law enforcement career began in 1968 as patrol officer with Coffeyville, Kansas. He graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in 1971. In September, 1974, he joined the Wichita Kansas Police Department where he worked until June 1996. During his time on the Wichita Police Department, he obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice in 1978, and his Master's Degree in May, 1983. He is a FBI/LEEDS Graduate, 2003.
Chief McKenna and his staff are dedicated to exceeding the expectations of Baldwin citizens in the area of Law Enforcement and serve each day to the best of their abilities and will treat all people with respect.
